Welcome
The International Congress of the Spanish Biophysical Society – SBE Barcelona 2012 will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from July 3rd to 6th, 2012.
Organized by the Sociedad de Biofísica de España (SBE), with the local collaboration of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the XII SBE Congress has been conceived as a meeting point for the Spanish biophysics community and its peers from Europe and beyond, stimulating new interactions and providing a first-class forum for the youngest researchers. The international vocation of the congress translates into a scientific program that brings together key players in each of ten broad areas, organized in the following symposia:
Symposium I. Protein biophysics I: structure and dynamics
Symposium II. Membrane biophysics I
Symposium III. Biophysics of nucleic acids
Symposium IV. Bioenergetics, enzyme catalysis
Symposium V. Analysis of macromolecular assemblies
Symposium VI. Cell and tissue biophysics
Symposium VII. Protein biophysics II: drug design, synchrotron radiation
Symposium VIII. Membrane biophysics II: receptors, channels, transporters
Symposium IX. Single-molecule biophysics
Symposium X. Biophysical approaches to systems biology
In recent years Barcelona has become a South-European pole of Bio research, with the consolidation of competitive centres and infrastructures and the attraction of national and international talent. Recent examples of this are the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the new ALBA Synchrotron, in the vicinity of UAB, which is called to be the major driving force for further development of structural biophysics in Spain.
The high quality of all speakers, the large momentum of the field in Spain, the international participation and the well-known attractions of Barcelona will certainly make SBE Barcelona 2012 a success.
